SSH Telnet
Discover more about SSH and how this simple protocol will give you the ability to rapidly maintain whole web servers.
Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange data between a web server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the 2 sides is encoded, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of managing a hosting account. The commands which could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the choices are limited as you'll not have root access to the server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out within the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of applications for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is provided by default with some of our
semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you will be able to include it through the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even just for the current month. In any case, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with just one click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same place, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you may input the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you may also change it as frequently as you want. A full list of the commands that can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few examples. An extra feature after SSH access is enabled shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.
