When you register a domain name, you have to give a valid street address, email and phone in accordance with the policies approved by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. This information, however, is not kept only by the domain name registrar, but is accessible to the public on WHOIS check websites too, so anybody can view your details and many individuals may not be satisfied with this. As a consequence, many registrar companies have come up with the so-called Whois Privacy Protection service, which hides the domain name registrant’s contact details and upon a WHOIS check, people will see the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner. This service is also known as Whois Privacy Protection or Privacy Protection, but all these names refer to the same service. Currently, most of the Top-Level Domains around the globe allow Whois Privacy Protection to be activated, but there are still country-specific extensions that don’t support this service.
